The Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts has issued a reminder to business taxpayers that an inventory of furniture and fixtures, machinery and equipment, and other property subject to personal property tax is due to county appraisal districts by April 15, 2009. The taxable inventory, which is also referred to as rendition, is used by appraisal districts to set property values. Owners of exempt property, such as church property or farming equipment, do not have to render their property. The comptroller also reminded taxpayers whose property was damaged by storm, flood, or fire last year that they may decrease their tax bill if they file a special decreased value report.
